There's only 1 bridge off the island.
One.
I have a feeling the 45 minute trip to the bridge will take about 6-7 hours.
Then it's another 6 hours home from there.
Should be fun with a baby and a toddler.
I'll report back when I can.

Well, I was jealous of the house but I'm not for this! Good luck! I hope you get lucky and both kids fall asleep.
oh no!!! what a bummer!!! hope everything goes as smoothly as it can!
Oh Jenni, I'm so sorry! Please be careful.
Oh Jenni, I am so sorry that your vacation had to end this way. How disappointing. I remember it taking over an hour to get off the island just on a normal day due to one bridge, hopefully most people have already left and it doesn't take too long.
Ugh...that sucks. Have a safe drive!
stay safe sweets!!
Oh No Jenni! So Sorry to hear your trip has to end. I hope you and family have a safe and eventless trip home!
I'm so sorry your trip has been cut short :(
oh man! Good luck getting home!
oh man! Good luck getting home!
so sorry to hear... hope traffic moves quickly!
Oh no! What an awful way to end your vacation. Hope your commute out of there goes as smooth as possible.
Be safe and good luck!!
I'm sad for you :-(
I know, from past blog posts how much you look forward to and enjoy this trip...
I hope you get home safely!
Not for nothing but how insane are you that you were riding out a Cat 4 HURRICANE with a toddler and an infant in an oceanfront home in the one area in the US where the hurricane will probably hit the worst!!! Please get home safe.
Sorry you'll miss the last couple of days of your vacation, Jenni. Better safe than sorry, right? I am assuming the owner of the house has a nice little stipulation in their contract that does not allow refunds for "acts of God"? DOUBLE SUCK!
I am so sorry:( Hope it goes by quickly and painlessly!
OMG Bummer! I was watching the news the other day and thought of you when they said it might hit the outer banks :-( I'm so sorry that your vacation was ruined. I hope you guys have a safe trip home and are able to make this time up later. Hope the kids aren't too bad...good luck!
@ Anonymous- Oh hun, I was just waiting for a comment like that. Do you actually think I would have stayed there for a cat 4 hurricane??
The entire trip the local news was saying it would be a cat 2 at best and that it would be about 200 miles out to sea when it got to the Outer Banks.
We knew that once it got dangerous, they would have a mandatory evacuation and that's what happened.
I'm stating the obvious here, but I'd never put my babies in danger.
We're home safe now. =)
In all honesty, yes, I do think you would have stayed... well, with all that beer and all.
Come on now, who are you trying to kid? I'm not trying to be mean and I know you're a GREAT mom, but, your 'Eff Earl' post... completely unnecessary and way too... irresponsible methinks.
le sigh.
