Y3W | The Bathroom Reveal

You guys? I'm so excited to show you our completely renovated bathroom... eeekkk! There were quite a few set backs along the way, but we pulled through them and finally finished this disaster of a project. And the result? Well, it's amazing.

First? A little tip. When you have annoying little house projects to do and you continuously put them off weekend after weekend, my tip for you is this...

Invite people over.

It works every time. And that's exactly what I did on Saturday. So I ended up looking like this for most of the day...Painting 6-panel doors is my hell. {Along with filing and being stuck behind a slow driver in the fast lane.}

Let's take a look back to the "before" pics, shall we? {So embarrassing, but it shows just how far we've come!}
Ugh. It's worse than I remember. But I did get to put a hammer right through that effing "x" on the wall...

...and boy did that feel good.

So the final product? WE LOVE IT! I want to give a big gigantic THANK YOU to my wonderful father-in-law, Mike, for all the fantastic work he did. He is amazing and we are so very lucky to have him in our lives {and not just because he's a great renovator, lol} Thanks Mike!!

ETA: Check out the bottom of the post for info on where I got some of the items!
The details...So there you have it... our gorgeous new bathroom! Although I said I wouldn't post these pictures until it was officially D.O.N.E., I did. There are still a few minor things that we want to do: put up a towel bar, change out the light switch covers {right now they're just the standard cheap ones} and lastly, buy this sign that I've loved since 2006. I'm not kidding. {I never had a bathroom that it would match... and now I do. =}
So you want to know where I got some of this stuff, huh? No problem...

Paint Color: Shenandoah Taupe by Benjamin Moore {this is the most gorgeous paint color I have ever seen. I stole the idea from my sister who has it in her dinning room.}
Target: Shower curtain, towels, baskets in drawers & closet, candle on the bottom shelf
Home Depot: Sink, faucet, lights, tub, toilet, mirror, granite counter top, closet shelving, etc.
Kohls: Wood shelves above toilet, vintage tub picture, "M" and the jar with scented sticks on top shelf

Grab a button and join the fun...

Have a lovely weekend everyone! One more week until Captain Carter's Pirate Party... ahhh! {Or should I say, "aye, aye"?}

Bathroom Update

So the bathroom has been "done" for quite awhile now. And by "done" I mean that we have finished floors, painted walls/ceiling, a door, molding and a working shower/tub, sink, and toilet. What we don't have is a finished closet. Why? Because it takes Lowes 18 business days to make an 18in closet door. {How is that even possible?}

So yesterday, on what appeared to be our first day off {i.e. no work, no plans} in about 5 weekends, Bob headed to Lowes to pick up this super magical door that took them 18 business days to make. While there, he also bought the 4 shelves and the closet organizing system that we wanted to install as well.

And because nothing is ever easy in our house, Bob brought it home and none of the shelves actually fit into the closet. Good times.

Now, I know what you're thinking: "ya mean, those idiots didn't even measure before they bought the shelves!?" We did. I promise, we did. But the depth of the closet is only 12 inches, which is the exact depth of the wire shelves. The problem is the brackets {used to hold the shelves} change the depth by an inch. Again? Good times.

So there goes another weekend with all of my bathroom closet items scattered on drawers and in trash bags in poor little Brynn's room. We need to take everything back and figure out what the heck will fit into our tiny 12in x 24in closet.

I just want this bathroom to be DONE. With no quotations. And I refuse to show you what it looks like until it is.

Okay fine, one picture. {Tough crowd.}
How about a vote for the bathroom? =)

Y3W | The state of the bathroom.

So, you're probably wondering how the heck the bathroom reno is coming along. This should give you a good idea...
Yes, that is my father-in-law's hand sticking out from our family room ceiling. Because nothing is ever easy with our house. All he did? Was sit a hammer down on the bathroom floor {sans bathtub} and, yep you guessed it... it fell through.

Now the only one that was in the family room at the time was Carter. And luckily, he was on the other side of the room. I was upstairs refilling his sippy cup when it happened. I heard a loud bang, a "shit" {courtesy of FIL} and I peeked around the wall from the kitchen to see that exact scene {kinda creepy, right?}

That picture was taken about 2 weeks ago and I'm happy to report that we now have:
  • walls
  • door
  • floor {it's the little things}
  • bathtub/shower
  • closet
  • vanity {sans top/sink}
Next up? Well, more spackle... but then I can paint! Woo hooooo! After the painting is complete we'll put in the new granite vanity top, the closet door & shelving, molding, and the toilet and we'll be done!

This project has taken a little longer than expected due to minor set backs {ya know, like redoing all the plumbing & electrical work, and a hammer falling through the floor} but is expected to be completed in another week. I can not wait to get my house back in order... it is the messiest it has ever been and it is driving me bonkers. I can't believe I'm saying this, but I can't wait to do some spring cleaning! {Then I guess a party so everyone can see it?... who wants to come??}

And I just have to give a HUGE shout out to my wonderful father-in-law, Mike, who is kicking this projects ass. He has done everything for us and we are beyond lucky to have him. We're paying him in Yuengling, cheese steaks and pizza {is that okay for dinner tonight, Mike? =} and there is no way that we could possibly thank him enough. {I may start renting him out to people... is that a legitimate business?}

Just a few announcements:
Have a great weekend everyone. Can't wait to share the "after" pics with you!!

Vote if you think a hand coming through the ceiling is creepy!
{or if you want to come over and help me with spring cleaning ;}

Bathroom Renovation | Before

From the day we moved into our house on February 28, 2006, I have wanted to take a sledge hammer to our bathroom.

Saturday? I get that chance.

This weekend we start our full bathroom renovation and we can NOT wait. It's been a long time coming, but as anyone who has bought a "fixer-upper" knows, you can't do it all at once. It's a lengthy {and expensive} process. But I am so proud of what we have accomplished with our house renovation projects in the 5 years we've lived there and have done SO much to make our house into a home. We started with our complete kitchen reno in January, 2007 and haven't looked back since. =)

Let me show you the "before" pics of our bathroom. I'll warn you... it's a grey and pepto pink mess. I really have NO idea how we lived with it like this for so long. I mean, there's carpet on the floor. {Carpet, people! Who does that!?!} But I guess you do what you have to do to ignore it {until you save enough money to take a sledge hammer to the "x" on the bathroom wall ;}

Here goes nothing...
{Whew... this is embarrassing to even put on the interwebz}

The seashell stencils? Don't be jealous...
Yes, we have a grey toilet with a white seat. Want to know why? Because Bob stood on the toilet to change the light bulb and broke it. And they don't sell grey toilet seats {because they went out of style in 1962.}
DIE, SEASHELL LIGHTS. DIE.
...and this, my friends? Is where the sledge hammer will be going.
Ya know what I just thought about? They didn't even have an outlet in this bathroom before we moved in. I noticed it during our walk-through a few days before our big move and made them put one in. I mean, really? Who doesn't have a friggin' plug in the bathroom???

Sigh.

As excited as I am to start this project, I'm just as annoyed by it. We won't have a shower in the house until the project is complete. Yep, that's right... no shower. We at least have a toilet and sink, since we have a 1/2 bathroom off the family room {that we renovated as soon as we moved in}... but no shower. We'll be showering at my parents house every night after dinner, before going home. I'm so glad we have that option, b/c I don't know what we'd do without them! This should be fun, right? That's okay... totally worth it.

So there you have it. The before.
