Take It Off Monday

Large medifast badge

I kinda had a feeling that this week would not be a HUGE weight loss week.  And it wasn't, I was right.  But after losing 5 pounds last week, it wouldn't be normal {or healthy} to continue losing weight that fast. I will say, however, that even though I only lost a pound this week, I still feel better than I did last week.  I just feel a lot less bloated, overall, which I'm excited about! {Perhaps I'm losing inches?  Have to count the non-scale victories (NSV) too, right!?!}

It's been awhile since I talked about how the plan works, so let me tell you about it: I'm on the 5 and 1 Plan.  That means that I eat 5 Medifast Meals per day plus 1 Lean & Green meal.  I usually save my lean & green meal for dinner time, because it allows me to eat with my family.  In addition to these items, you can have 1-2 Medifast snacks per day.

Now there are a hundred different ways you can do this plan, but here's what works for me {on the average day}:

8:30am- Medifast Meal 1 {ex: Spiced Pancakes}
10:30am- Medifast Snack {ex: Spicy Black Bean Veggie Chips}
12:30pm- Medifast Meal 2 & 3 {ex: Macaroni & Cheese and Honey Mustard Pretzel Sticks}
3pm- Medifast Meal 4 {ex: Peanut Butter Crunch Bar}
5:30pm- Lean & Green Meal {ex: grilled chicken, broccoli/squash/zucchini mix & a side salad}
8pm- Medifast Meal 5 {ex: Brownie}

I usually skip the mid-morning Medifast meal because lunch is usually when hunger hits its peak for me.  So if I can get by with a snack {and lots of water} around 10:30am, then it allows me to eat two things together for lunch, which keeps me much fuller {and less likely to cheat!}

Like I said, there are a million different ways you can follow the program, but this worked for me last time {when I lost 30 pounds!} so imma stick with it, mmmkay?

Like I said in my post last week, I've decided to start the Medifast Program again.  I've been successful on this program before {I lost 30 pounds in between Brynn and Reid!} and since this body of mine will house NO MOAR BABIES {yes, you read that right.  As Olivia Pope would say: "consider it handled." In other news, OMGSCANDAL. 4 more days! Wait, what was I talking about?} I need to lose this baby weight for good!

That's my motivation this time, for sure.  Knowing that this is it for me.  This is my opportunity to focus on getting my body back.  Making it a priority to lose this weight. Focusing on me.

The first week back has been an adjustment, for sure.  But there was only a time or two where I felt like I might actually wither away. Well, I guess technically I was withering away because:
Now that, I can handle.

15 September 2014

I think I know what my problem is...

I have at least 10-12 drafts that I've tried to post in the past several months, and each time I save it thinking "I'll just finish it later."  Do you think that ever happens?  No. Not even close.  I get busy with work or home responsibilities. Oh, and also: 4 kids.

Now, it's not that I have OMGNOFREETIME. I do have some free time.  But that time usually occurs between 9-10pm and I'm too tired to do anything but watch Bachelor in Paradise at that point. {Oh, don't judge.}

But now? I think I know what my problem is... Or was. I think I know what my problem was.  I was trying to catch you up on my life since my last post and it just. wasn't. possible.  So, let's just start small.

This post right here?  This is my first post back.

I'd love to tell you everything that has happened lately.  Like, Carter... he's in 1st grade now.  Brynn?  She just started soccer {and loves/hates it... more on this later.}  Reid just turned two last week. TWO.  And Emerson?  Oh, my sweet girl.  We lucked out in the baby department, you guise.  That girl is so sweet and loving and PATIENT.  She's the best.

As for me, I'm working on myself right now.  I'm trying to lose this baby weight for good {I started Medifast today!  I've had success in the past and I hope I can do it again.  More to come on this.}  I also recently got promoted at work, which has been keeping me quite busy, but also makes me so excited.  I just celebrated 10 years at the university that I work at and it's crazy to think back to when I first started. How much my life has changed in the past 10 years.

Back then I was a just-turned-25-year-old in a 2-bedroom apartment with a city view. I had an amazing boyfriend, could go out whenever I wanted and was about to start grad school. Shortly after I started working, I got engaged, planned a wedding, finished grad school, got married, bought a house, renovated ALL THE THINGS, had a baby, turned 30, had another baby, celebrated 5 years of marriage in Disney, lost a baby, had another baby, lost my dad, sent my first baby off to kindergarten, had ANOTHER baby {OMG, now I know why I explain my past life in kids... "oh, that was totally 2 kids ago."} turned 35, and just sent my first baby off to 1st grade.  That's a lot of stuff in 10 years. A. LOT.  And I'm so excited to see what the future holds for me and my sweet, "little" family.

So, yeah. I'm back. And I guess I should redesign the blog. My header is totally 1 kid ago, you guise.

For some reason this time?  That scale just does not want to budge.  I think for 4 or 5 days straight this week, I weighed the exact. same. weight.  Like, to the decimal point.  That never happens to me. {Ever, ever.}  I fluctuate on a daily basis. So the fact that it was the exact same weight for so many days in a row? Made me think my scale was broken.  I had to grab Carter and put him on the scale to make sure the number changed.  {It did, by the way. Ahem.}

But do you want to know what's good about the scale not budging?  If I happen to slip off plan {so. many. parties.} I'm not gaining weight either.  I'm just stuck.

This week, I did pretty well, however.  I lost a pound, which is great.  I wish it were more, but I'll certainly take it.

Want to know what else happened this week?

I fit back in to my size 8's.  Comfortably.

No muffin top hanging over the sides {ya know, for the most part} thankyouverymuch. They zip up and button perfectly.  No sucking in of the belly needed.  I'm so excited!  This was a major goal for me and I've finally reached it!

So, although the scale may not be budging much, I seem to be losing inches.  And I'll take that any day of the week.

How is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

Well I had a banner week this week.  Partially because I rock.  And partially because I thought I might die of the stomach bug this weekend. Again.  {What the hell winter sickness... GO AWAY.  It is almost April, for goodness sake!}

By Friday night, I was down a pound and feeling great.  However, I knew I had a crazy weekend ahead.  My mom turned 60 on Saturday. My sisters and I worked so hard at making this a very special birthday for my mom despite the huge hole in our hearts.  For months, we planned the perfect event for our mama... A limo. A wine tour. Dinner. And 16 of her closest friends and family.

At 4am on the day of my mom's birthday?  I woke up puking.  I got the effing stomach bug.  AGAIN.

By 9am I was feeling a teeny tiny bit better {i.e. I was no longer puking everywhere but I still had the awful stomach cramps} so I decided to shower and get ready for the day.  Nothing was keeping me away from my mama on her 60th birthday. {Especially after all that planning to make it as perfect as it could possibly be... are you serious universe?? Why do you hate me lately!?!}

Anyway, needless to say, I powered through the day and weekend and hardly ate or drank a thing. {The wine! The dinner! I missed it alllll.}

So, I lost a pound on my own and a second pound from the stomach bug diet. {Can I please be finished with that diet?  Pretty please?}

Total this week is -2lbs, bringing my total to -13lbs and almost {ALMOST} halfway to my goal of -30lbs.

I'd call that a success.  Sort of. {Also, more on my mom's birthday this week!}

So, how is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

This week was good.

And then it wasn't so good.

I'd say by Thursday I was down a pound and things were going really well.  I was staying on plan and doing great and then BAM.  The weekend.  And not just any weekend.  A busy weekend with three {count 'em: three} parties.  And, not to make excuses, but it is damn hard to stay on plan when you have a crazy, stressful, busy weekend with THREE parties. {One of which was a very special "party" I plan to blog about this week.}

And then I gained that pound back.  But.  I've been 100% back on plan and I'm working hard again.  Just hoping to get past this hump.

But, crap. I have another crazy weekend coming up. Of course I do.  A very special weekend. A weekend in which my mom turns SIXTY.  A weekend that will be spent celebrating HER {because no one deserves it more.}

A weekend that will be spent on a wine tour. {Just keepin' it real here folks.}

I feel like this weight loss journey is one step forward, two steps back. Let's hope I can keep it together this week, mmmkay?

So, how is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

Medifast Update

Large_medifast_badge

Just checking in with you on my Medifast progress.

The truth is, I waited until the very last minute to order more food and then there happened to be a random mix up with my order, so I basically had no Medifast food to eat for over a week!  Sigh.

But I'm happy to report that I did the best that I could with eating right while off plan.  I was simply trying to maintain my weight while I awaited my new food order, but I actually ended up LOSING .2 pounds!  Not a lot of weight, but I'm still happy with myself :)

So I'm fully back on plan now and I look forward to updating you on my normal progress again next Monday.

How is your weight loss progress going this week?

Take if off Monday: Week 7

Large_medifast_badge

I'm just going to come out and say it...

I LOST 1.8 POUNDS!!

Now, I usually don't count the decimals.  But I'm thinking I might have to start, because every decimal is really hard to earn this go 'round. Like I mentioned last week, it's hard work to even lose a pound a week this time.  I just don't know what it is.  Well, I kinda know what it is, but I'm not sure what can be done about it, I guess.

But I'll just keep truckin' along.

No exercise this past week.  My plan was the 30 Day Shred on my lunch break but work was so busy that I didn't even get a lunch break at ALL.  It was lovely.  I was suppose to start today, but I totally forgot.  Oops.  I hate exercising. {Hey, at least I'm honest.. but I guess who really loves it, right?}

Oh hey, I reached my first goal.  {Mani/pedi HERE I COME!}

So, how is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

Take it off Monday: Week 6

Large_medifast_badge
You guys?  I'm feeling frustrated.  And I know that's normal, but I am.  I had no loss this week.  Actually by Valentine's Day morning, I had gained a pound, which caused me to be super annoyed and eat! all! the! candy!

Not really, but I wanted too. {I lost that pound by the way.}

I'm staying on plan and I know it works, so I'm not sure what's going on.  I didn't have these issues last time... the weight sort of just fell off. {With a lot of hard work, of course.  Ahem.}  I'm following the plan just like I did the last time I was on Medifast {if not better} and I just feel stuck. Which is odd, because we're only 6 weeks in. Usually "stuck" happens at the end.

So, I looked into it a bit and I think there are a few things going on here that are helping to contribute to my lack of success*: stress, anxiety and, the #1 culprit, exhaustion.

*I do think a 9 pound loss in 6 weeks is successful, but having only lost 1 pound in 3 weeks? Not so much. To me, anyway.

I have 3 kids and a full time job.  Mama is tired.  And I haven't really been sleeping well at night.  If one kid's not up, you better believe another is.  I also spend a lot of time at night making sure Reid does not fully wake up.  I have Spidey-Ears and wake at the first rustle or cough {damn cold} and then spend the next few minutes either checking on him or rocking him back to sleep.  Then, of course, it takes me twice as long to get back to sleep myself.  Now multiply that by 6 or 10 and that's how many times I end up getting up at night. There's probably only one night a week that I go to sleep and then don't wake up until my alarm goes off. Maybe. {But usually not.}

And, as an exhausted mama of 3, stress and anxiety just come with the territory. On top of that? I just lost my dad.  So multiply it by 100. {Or 1 million.}

I'm trying not to make excuses.  Believe me.  I truly just want to figure out what's going on so I can address these issues and kick this weight. I think exercise will help big time now. It's just finding the TIME to do it.  But I think once I work it into my schedule, it will help address the stress and anxiety, and of course, the weight.  But not the exhaustion.  I think I'm going to be dealing with that for the next 18+ years. ;)

So, how is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

Second Goal: 20 pounds

Final Goal: 30 pounds
  • Reward: Head-to-Toe new outfit!
Success: ?

Set-Backs: Just feeling stuck.

Exercise: I think my lunch break is the only free time I have now.  I'd love to say I'll wake up early and work out, but when I'm up every hour, I think I'd just end up throwing my alarm out the window if it went off before I actually had to get up. {See: Exhaustion.} So I will officially be 30 Day Shreadin' it during my lunch break. Good times.

Busy parents- when do you find time to work out?

Take it off Monday: Week 5

Large_medifast_badge

So I'm well into my weight loss journey and I hit a very special milestone this past week... I'm down a notch in my belt.  WOOT!  The next notch {not this one, but the next one} is the skinniest I've ever been with this belt {which is my 30 pound weight loss the last time I completed Medifast} so I was super excited about this non-scale victory.

But, like those on a weight loss journey know, it's the scale that we always focus on {hey, it is what it is} and this week I'm only down a pound.  I was hoping for a -2 pound week to make up for not losing anything last week, but that's just not the way it worked out. Oh well.  I guess I was also really hoping for a -2 pound week because that would mean that I hit my first weight loss goal of -10 pounds, and that would just be amazing.

I'm almost there. Almost.

But despite only losing a pound, I'm happy about my progress this week. I feel like I'm making better choices and really getting in to the Medifast swing of things. I'm also trying to focus on the non-scale victories too, because they are every bit important as the numbers on the scale.

This week I wanted to share with you one of the new Medifast commercials that I just LOVE.  Seriously, every time I watch it, I tear up.  So I just thought I'd post it on here so that everyone else that is interested in it, could see it as well.

It's such a beautiful commercial and I think it speaks to so many of us. The "good job" at the end?... that gets me every. single. time.

So, how is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

Exercise: I think I'm going to start the 30 Day Shred again. It's just hard finding TIME to do it. I'm going to start walking during my lunch breaks though because then it's almost like "free time" and I need to take advantage of that.  If I could get away with doing the 30DS in my office over lunch, I totally would.  But I think I'd get annoyed with putting my work clothes back on after working out.  Sweats are totally okay in the work place, right? RIGHT?

Take it off Mon, er... Tuesday

Large_medifast_badge

I'm going to be honest.  I was really frustrated this week.  I was so good and 100% on plan ALL week and ended up with ZERO loss.

I'm a daily weigher {bad, I know} and I saw the number on the scale change daily.  It was fluctuating as high as +2 pounds at one point. I mean, seriously!?!?! By Thursday morning, I was getting really angry.  I mean how can I gain two pounds after staying on plan??  I even shared my frustrations with some of my fellow Medifast bloggers who were trying to keep me motivated and focused on the main goal.

By Friday morning?  I had my answer.  I got my effing period.  I'm about to get a little TMI here, but these days I have no idea when to even expect good ol' Aunt Flo. I went from delivering a baby, to breastfeeding, to quitting breastfeeding, to having surgery, to losing my dad, to losing my puppy, to starting a new diet with Medifast.

For real?

My body hates me right now.

So I think that explains why my weight was fluctuating so much all week after staying on plan.  But I'm happy to report that by Monday mornings "official" weigh-in, I was back down to my normal weight and I didn't gain or lose this week.

Is it sad that I'm happy about not losing?  I mean, in a way, I feel like I lost 2 pounds.

But not really.

How is everyone else doing on their diet plans this week?  I'd love to hear from you and/or have you share a link to your most recent post!

Take it off Monday: Week 3

Large_medifast_badge

They call it the "week 3 slump".  And I hit it.  I did expect it, however.  You can't go and lose 7lbs in 2 weeks and hope to keep losing at that pace.  That's not even healthy!  So, I'm happy to report that I lost 1 pound this week.  And although that may not be much, I'm still one step closer to my goal of 30 pounds and that sure is something to be proud of!

This week, I thought I'd share with you this wonderful infograph created by the Medifast team. It perfectly displays the 5 and 1 plan on an average day.

What's so great about this plan is that you can totally make it your own!  And there are so many food choices that you don't feel like you're eating the same thing day after day.

If you have any questions about the 5 & 1 plan, let me know!

Take it off Monday: Week 2

Large_medifast_badge

Although this is my week 2 post, I technically think it's really only week 1 on the program. {I had the stomach bug last week.  Ugh.}

Overall, I think I did pretty damn well getting back into the Medifast swing of things.  Of course, with a 3 day weekend, there were more than a few temptations.  A movie/dinner date with Bob yesterday, in particular.

{We saw Silver Linings Playbook.  HIGHLY recommend.
Especially for fellow Philadelphians. Ahem.}

While I did all the right things {ate before I left the house, brought a movie snack with me, etc} I have to be honest with you... I caved on the movie popcorn.  I just. couldn't. help. it.  It's a big weakness of mine and I knew that going in.  I just had a few handfuls and then tried to really fill up on my Medifast Nacho Puffs.  It worked, but I was still a little disappointed in myself for caving.  Oh well.  I tried.  For dinner, I did really well.  I ordered a steak, grilled shrimp and grilled veggies.  It was delicious!

To be honest, I think the Medifast program is extremely easy to follow during the week.  There's a schedule.  I pack my 4 Medifast meals, bring them to work, eat, eat, eat, drink, drink, drink {my goal is 80-100oz of water per day, which is somewhat easy for me... I love water} then I come home to a lovely, but sensible, lean & green meal and I still get another Medifast meal at night {usually a warm brownie!} Easy Peasey.  Seriously.  It's the weekends that are super difficult. But I think I did really well, overall.

Something I wanted to talk about this week, that I think contributed to my success, is the new Medifast app.  I didn't have that the last time I completed the program and I'm finding it extremely helpful!  With the app, I can log my meals, keep track of calories and water intake and update my progress. Here's a screen shot of my app today...

Oh wait.  Did you catch that?

I've lost SEVEN POUNDS so far. That means I lost 5 pounds this week on the Medifast plan.

Although I thought the popcorn would set me back, clearly staying strong and on plan the rest of the week really paid off.

WOO HOO!
